Contrary to speculations that the annual Ghana Movie Awards will not come off this year, founder of the awards Phred Nuamah has confirmed that it will come off in grand style.
Speaking to Graphic Showbiz last Tuesday, Phred said this year’s awards will come off on December 4 at the Kempiski Hotel in Accra.
“This year’s will be a dinner affair and guests are will be treated to small chops and champagne, it will be strictly by invitation and we might have just about 100 or 200 exclusive tickets for sale because the venue cannot accommodate huge numbers,” he said.
According to Phred, the awards come is two categories, “we have the main Ghana Movie Awards which is in its seventh year and the Ghana TV Series Awards which is in its sixth year though they are both under the same foundation, we will have two different awards on the same night,” he said.
Asked what patrons are to expect on the night, this is what Phred had to say, “We always try to build up from previous ones, we are our own competition so we make sure that we do better than the year before so that is what we will strive to do this year,” were his words.
Nominees for this year’s awards, Phred said, will be released on November 20. He however hinted that information he is privy to from the Academy has it that, three women producers are up for the highest award of the night which is the Best Picture. They are Kalsoume Sinare, Leila Djansi and Priscilla Anane.
