GES lied about fake certificates – NAGRAT

The National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) has expressed shock at the Ghana Education Service (GES) for dismissing their claims of being owed salary arrears by government.

They have also accused the GES of lying about the academic credentials of some of their members.

NAGRAT and the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) have threatened to embark on a nationwide strike by the end of February if government fails to pay their accumulated allowances.

But, the Director General of the GES, Mr Jacob Aaworb-Nang Maabobr Kor at a press conference among other things blamed the delay in paying the arrears on fake certificates presented to the service by some of the teachers.

Mr Kor said there were indications that some staff of the GES were using fake certificates and other documentations, “and I wish to take this opportunity to assure all GES staff that the exercise to scrutinise documentation of all staff will continue until the bad lots are removed.”

But the Vice President of NAGRAT, Angel Cabonu in an interview with Citi News said “we are shocked at the issue that the Director General raised and we are saying emphatically that the issue he raised are red-herrings and are very far from the truth.”

He argued that it is an indictment on the GES if the Director General admitted to recruiting teachers with fake certificates.

“Is the Director General is admitting that the Ghana Education Service has been recruiting teachers with fake certificates all these years? If it is so then the Director General and the Ghana Education Service stand indicted because for a service to agree that it has recruited people who are not certificated and they are so many to the extent that when we are talking about 3,000 teachers owed arrears, Director General is saying after paying a paltry 600 then the rest are people with fake certificates,” he added.
