The Ghana Education Service (GES) will by the end of October completed the validation and payment of the over 29 thousand teachers demanding their salary arrears.
Currently, the Ministry of Finance has authorised the payment of the fourth batch of 5,153 validated teachers.
A statement signed by the Head of Public Relations of the Ministry of Education, Dan Osman Mwin said the GES has been directed to activate the data of the validated officers to enable the Controller and Accountant General’s Department to effect payment.
In February last year, government reached an agreement with the leadership of three teacher unions, Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) and the Coalition of Concerned Teachers (CCT) to pay them 1.5 million Ghana cedis as part payment of the arrears owed them following a demand by the Unions to have their salaries paid or go on strike.
According to the GES, the entire process of validating and paying all the 29 thousand teachers will be completed by October should all the parties follow the procedures laid down.
