Fuel price hikes: ‘We believe Terkper won’t deceive Parliament’

The Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana has disclosed that it has empowered its officials to reject persons they find are not qualified to register during the 2016 registration process.

Before this, only political parties could object to or challenge the registration of a person.

“If you are an EC official and someone shows up and none of the political parties objects, the EC official will be empowered to object,” she told Samson Lardy Anyenini host of political talk show, Newsfile, aired on Joy FM in Accra on Saturday January 9 2016.

“This suggestion came from the reform committee set up by the EC after the 2012 election petition,” she added.

According to the EC boss when there is an objection, it doesn’t mean the person cannot get onto the register.

“It just means the person will have to provide proof that you are qualified to be on the register and go through the proper process and then you will be put on the register if you prove you qualify to be on the register.”
