Fritz Baffour mourns Kofi Bucknor

Former legislator for Ablekuma South, Fritz Baffour, has expressed sadness over the death of veteran actor Charles Kofi Bucknor.

Mr Baffour said he was heartbroken by the news of the death of his “nephew, friend and colleague” as he was already aggrieved by the Manchester attack that claimed 22 lives.

The former Minister of Information indicated: “The sad demise of Charles Kofi Bucknor in the early hours of Tuesday was not something I wanted to hear.”

The veteran actor is reported to have died at dawn on Tuesday, May 23. He starred in several movies including Run Baby Run, Heritage Africa, and was instrumental in Juliet Asante’s Silver Rain, which featured Joselyn Dumas and Elikem Kumordzie, among others.

For Mr Baffour, Mr Bucknor “was a superb visual artist, a raconteur of note, a celebrated actor, and consummate media professional”.

Sharing fond memories of the deceased, Mr Baffour said: “In 2007, I had the privilege of acting alongside him in the award-winning comedy film No Time To Die produced by our mutual friend King Ampaw and I saw at first hand the dexterity of this warm-hearted and gifted soul. Prior to that as kin, we spent a lot of time thinking up ideas of possible film and television productions, which sadly never materialised. He was, for a time, the Director of Television at the GBC, a thankless job if ever there was one, but he worked hard with his usual gusto to give satisfaction to the viewing public in difficult circumstances. That was the man!

“Kofi was a great family man and father but did not keep his affections for only close kin but mentored so many young people far and wide. He believed that talent should be encouraged to soar. Charles Kofi Bucknor, words now fail me, but yesterday you did not enter the hallowed halls of paradise alone, with you was someone you admired greatly: Sir Roger Moore, alias The Saint or OO7.

“May God embrace them both in his infinite mercy and love. My condolences to Kofi’s cherished wife, children and family.”
