FRIENDS OF NII ARMAH ASHITEY FONAA ENDORSES HIS CANDIDATURE FOR 2016 GENERAL ELECTIONS.

The Friends of Nii Armah Ashitey (FONAA) which was formed in the year 2008 for the purpose of propagating the good works of the Honourable Member of Parliament Lawyer Nii Armah Ashietey and that of the National Democratic Congress in the Osu Klottey Korley constituency as a whole wishes to reaffirm our support for the honourable member for the third time.

This group including the Action Youth Group and the entire membership of the NDC in the constituency form part of the success that the NDC had chocked over the years. We therefore, on this occasion, want to put it across that we will continue to support the Honourable Member, Nii Armah Ashietey to wrestle power again for our constituency for the third time.

Osu Klottey Korley is a swing constituency which has been swung between the NDC and the NPP since 1992. It is on record that only Hon. Nii Armah Ashietey has been able to win the seat for the NDC on two consecutive times (2008 and in 2012). This was not achieved on a silver platter. The Honourable Member fought, worked and served his constituence before breaking that record in Osu Klottey Korley constituency. Hon Nii Armah Ashietey has distinguish himself as the man to trust when it comes to exhibiting loyalty over the years. At the time when the NDC lost power to the NPP in the year 2000 and lost the Osu Klottey Korley constituency seat to them as well, he single handedly carried the constituency on his shoulders, fed it, groomed it, supported and financed the constituency with his own funds with the help of most members on the ground. He helped in the opening of almost half of the branches in the constituency and funded them till they grew up. This is the man, we are talking about, Nii Armah Ashietey, the man whose loyalty cannot be disputed by anyone in the constituency.

Friends of Nii Armah Ashietey (FONAA) wants to use this as an opportunity to inform the rank and file of our party to wake up in order not to allow anyone to throw dust into the eyes of party delegates. We as a party need to encourage the youth of today to continue to show their loyalty for this constituency and for that matter, the NDC party by keeping on honouring previous members who have shown their loyalty to this constituency over the years. We must not follow the paths of the NPP who are known for honouring people with cash and hype in their party instead of honouring loyalty. Just recently, the NPP delegates in the Osu Klottey Korley constituency demonstrated that, they are not going to follow their mother party and had gone ahead to elect a party loyalist over the hyped lawyer Philip Addison to lead their front to the 2016 General Elections, it is up to us to also follow suit and make sure we also elect the tried and tested loyalist Hon Nii Armah Ashietey to wrestle another victory for our great party.

We Members of FONAA won’t support any claim to disqualify or deter anyone from contesting the Hon Member for the sake of democracy for which the Hon Member has always preached about, but we will rather call on any card bearing member to demonstrate to anybody who wants to come through behind the windows to learn how to work for a constituency, show their loyalty before coming to contest for positions. We won’t encourage people with hyped names to come and take over our constituency. We shall reject those people and advise them to go down and start from scratch as many of us are doing. Osu Klottey Korley is for serious people and not for people with kids’ gloves. For crying out loud, we are talking about the only constituency in Ghana which determines which party wins General Elections in the sense that, any party that wins the Osu Klottey Korley seat eventually wins the General Elections as well.

The Osu Klottey Korley constituency believes in loyalty not hype and so, we want to use this as an opportunity to advise all bootlickers in the constituency to be very careful not to sell their birth right. Electing a Member of Parliament for a constituency is not a ludu game. It is for serious people with a lot of experience and with leadership qualities. Hon Nii Armah Ashietey was the Mayor for Tema for eight good years under the leadership of His Excellency Jerry John Rawlings. He served as a Minister under the late Prof. John Evans Atta Mills and has served as a Minister under the leadership of His Excellency John Dramani Mahama as well. He has achieved a lot of success for Osu Klottey Korley Constituency.

FONAA therefore calls on all party faithful to endorse the candidature of Hon Member Nii Armah Ashietey for a smooth victory once again. We want to assure the rank and file of our party that, any attempt to change Hon Nii Armah Ashietey will make us lose the seat to the NPP no matter what we do because, the NPP has fielded an indigenous member and for that matter a party loyalist to lead them and so when we make a mistake and field in an unexperienced person or someone who is not known in the constituency, then we are dead. Let’s unite and rally our support behind Hon Nii Armah Ashietey for Victory 2016.
