Freddy Blay Insists NEC Meeting Will Come On Despite Afoko Branding It As “ILLEGALITY”

Almost 14 months to election 2016 and still the opposition New Patriotic Party [NPP] internal wrangling is yet to be resolved amicably despite the party’s flagbearer, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s numerous calls to cease fire in the party.

The party’s National Executives according to sources are not united – in recent time, National Chairman, Paul Afoko and his first vice chairman, Freddie Blay seem to be at war over an emergency meeting arranged by the vice chairman.

Freddie Blay is believed to have called for a National Executive Council [NEC] emergency meeting to discussed issues related to Mr. Afoko.

But the meeting has been annulled by chairman Afoko – with a statement emphatically rubbishing Freddie Blay’s organised NEC meeting.

“It has come to my (Paul Afoko) notice that an emergency meeting of the National Executive Committee of the party has been called for today Friday the 23rd of October 2015 at 10am at the Party’s Headquarters. I hereby state categorically that no such meeting of NEC has been scheduled and that members should disregard any such notices they might have received,” the statement said.

Further read that – “I am informed that the said meeting is being called by the Party’s 1st Vice Chairman, Mr. Freddie Blay. By the provisions of our constitution, Mr. Freddie Blay has no vested authority to sanction such a meeting, especially when Freddie Blay has no vested authority to sanction such a meeting, especially when I the chairman, the constitutionally mandated person to call and preside over such meetings have not authorized Mr. Blay to call any meeting…I also wish to serve notice, and notice is hereby served that the meeting called by Mr. Blay is an illegality and a breach of our party’s constitution.”

However, Freddie Blay on NEAT FM’s morning show ‘Ghana Montie’ maintained that the meeting will come on as scheduled
.
“We will go ahead with the meeting as planned. All NEC members will be available,” he assured.
