Former Akwatia MP, Dr Kofi Asare dies in car crash

former Member of Parliament (MP) for the Akwatia Constituency in the Eastern Region, Dr Kofi Asare, has died following a car accident.

The one-time MP’s car is reported to have crashed the Nkawkaw-Kumasi highway on Tuesday evening.

Dr Asare, representing the New Patriotic Party (NPP), beat the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) Ahmed Mohammed Baba-Jamal and three others in the 2008 general elections to win the Akwatia parliamentary seat.

He, however, lost his seat bid to Mr Baba-Jamal in the 2012 general elections and his attempt for comeback in 2016 failed as he was defeated in the NPP primaries by Madam Mercy Adu-Gyamfi.

Dr Asare was 62 years old.
