First Lady Happy With National Health Insurance

The First Lady, Lordina Mahama, says the provision of equipment and logistics and training of qualified healthcare personnel by Government combined with the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), is providing favourable health outcomes for many people in Ghana.

According to her, the NHIS, which provides universal health insurance coverage for all Ghanaians, irrespective of their socio-economic background, has grown rapidly and experienced a dramatic increase in outpatient visitation.

The First Lady, was addressing a gathering at Nsoatre, when she interacted and donated medical supplies and other items to the Nsoatre District Hospital in the Sunyani West District of the Brong Ahafo Region.

She noted, “NHIS has grown rapidly and experienced a dramatic increase in outpatient visitation. This was put at over 29 million in 2014, with over 1billion paid out to health institution against claims made”.

The First Lady, asserted that recognizing the importance of the health of the people, government has invested a lot of resources, into constructing more hospitals, and expanding health facilities, and retooling them, across the country.

“Simply because the government appreciates the importance of a healthy population to economic development, governments over the years, have invested a lot in providing these critical social services for its citizens. Equipment and logistics for these healthcare facilities are being provided.
Healthcare professionals are being trained and posted all over the country,” she stated.http://ghanapoliticsonline.com

She believed that, the government cannot achieve its vision of “health for all” by itself, so she called on organizations and individuals, as well as stakeholders in the health sector, to support the government in achieving this vision of health for all.

She explained that, in view of the importance of health of the people to the socio-economic growth of this country, the Lordina Foundation, with support from its partners, MedShare USA, was donating these items towards quality healthcare in many Districts and community based health facilities in all the ten regions of the country.

“I am delighted to present these medical supplies and equipment to your hospital towards advancing the health and well-being of your community.
Since my Foundation embarked on this medical outreach across the country, I have come to appreciate that, life can be preserved and even extended in so many cases, and that many deaths are avoidable, if only we have the right healthcare facilities, personnel and equipment” the first lady stated.

She expressed the commitment and determination of the Lordina Foundation to continue to support the effort of the government to deliver world-class healthcare to the people of Ghana.

Receiving the items, the Nsoatre District Health Director, Charlotte Adu Gyamfi, thanked the First Lady, for the gesture, saying it will go a long
way to aid them in the discharge of their duties.

She assured the First Lady, the items would be used to benefit the people.
