FIFA presidency: CAF has no favourite – Nyantakyi

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) is yet to decide on which FIFA presidential candidate to support, going into the election for a new president for the world football governing body.

Ghana FA president Kwesi Nyantakyi, who is a member of the CAF Executive Committee, disclosed this at a press briefing in Accra.

“At the last CAF Executive Committee we took a position not to support any one candidate,” he said.

“The reason we haven’t taken a position is that after the close of nominations, FIFA needed to do a fit and proper check, to vet the applicants and then determine those, who are eligible to contest.”

“At the end of it, Liberian FA boss, Musa Bility, was disqualified, but, since then, the CAF Executive Committee hasn’t met, but each and every single Football Association on the continent has the prerogative to make its own decision, but the Executive Committee of CAF only plays the role of an advisory body,” he added.

The five men running for the FIFA presidency, which is expected to take place on February 6, 2016, are: Prince Ali Bin Al-Hussein, Sheikh Salman Bin Ibrahim Al-Khalifa, Tokyo Sexwale, Gianni Infantino, and Jerome Champagne.
