Fear grips Kumasi Academy as one more student dies, 44 Admitted to hospital

Sources close to the Ashanti Regional Health Directorate have confirmed only one student of Kumasi Academy (KUMACA) died at dawn of Tuesday in the unfolding mystery deaths at the college.

Earlier reports had claimed three students had died from yet to be established causes that have since April claimed the lives of 11 students.

The latest victim has been identified as 16-year-old Clementia Konadu, a second year Science student who was among students admitted to the KNUST Hospital on Monday. She is the only female to have died so far.

Forty-four others were still on admission while two students collapsed suddenly on Tuesday while school, health and regional authorities, including the regional minister were engaged in a meeting to decide the next cause of action.

Blood samples of a number of the victims of the mystery deaths have been sent to the Noguchi Memorial Research Institute in Accra to ascertain the cause of death.

Alarmed parents have been swarming the school anxious to take their wards away while school and health authorities insist they must undergo vaccination before being allowed to exit the school to prevent any possible spread of a contagious condition should that prove to be the case.
