‘Esau’ Akufo-Addo Selling Ghana’s Birthright To Chinese For Money – Sammy Gyamfi

National Communication Officer for the biggest opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Sammy Gyamfi says President Akufo-Addo and his government have sold the birthright of the country to Chinese illegal miners for money.

He added that the love of money which President Akufo-Addo and his government have shown can be akin to Esau in the Bible who sold his birthright to his younger brother Jacob for food.

“ . . but our own Senior Minister says because of money, like Esau in the Bible sold his birthright to his younger brother, Jacob because of food, this government led by President Akufo-Addo says because of money, they don’t care if our water bodies would be destroyed or not,” Sammy Gyamfi chided on Okay FM’s ‘Ade Akye Abia’ Morning Show on Wednesday.

According to him, the Akufo-Addo led government sees nothing wrong to have the forest in the country destroyed in exchange for Synohydro road constructions and other projects in the country.

“If the Chinese illegal miners will destroy our forest, it is nothing to worry about simply because the Chinese Synohydro is coming to construct roads for us; because of money, how? Do we know the cost of the forest and water bodies they are destroying?” Sammy Gyamfi queried the NPP government.

He intimated that the Synohydro projects which the Akufo-Addo led government is making noise about is not a gift as the country’s bauxite is being used to pay for them; thus, the Synohydro deal is purely business which the Chinese company will walk away with a lot of interest.

“They are going to construct roads and other projects and we will use our bauxite which God has given to us to pay for the constructions and other projects. They have added interest to all the businesses they are coming to do,” he stated.

He reiterated that “it is not as if they are doing it for free . . . and so we should not touch their citizens when they go wrong in our country in order not to anger them.”

He insisted Ghana is into business with the Chinese company and so the laws of the country have to be enforced if a Chinese illegal miner flouts them, without having dire consequence with the business deal between the two parties.

He however wondered why Ghana’s Senior Minister, Yaw Osafo-Maafo is encouraging criminality and illegality due to money, but the Chinese Ambassador in Ghana is rather condemning any form of criminality and illegality; urging the government of Ghana to enjoin the law if a Chinese citizen comes to flout the laws of Ghana.
