Ensure Strict Enforcement Of Children Act – Gender Ministry Urged

Parliament has asked the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection to adopt and implement targeted policies, ensure strict enforcement of the Children’s Act and consider the establishment of a Trust Fund to mobilize resources for the training of young girls in various vocations to help reduce the head porters also known as Kayaye phenomenon in the Country.

These came up on the floor of Parliament when the Chairperson for the Gender and Children Committee Laadi Ayii Ayamba presented the Committee’s report on the Kayaye Phenomenon in Ghana. http://ghanapoliticsonline.com

She said a holistic approach is required in solving the Kayaye menace, stating that most of the female migrants move to the South to avoid poverty and hardship in their regions.
