Our educational system attractive to West African students: Mahama

President John Mahama has brushed aside latest swipes from his critics over falling standards of education in Ghana, saying it is one of the best in the world.

President Mahama, the NDC presidential nominee, who is seeking a second term in office against NPP’s Nana Akufo-Addo and six others, said his administration has “heavily in education” and will continue to do so if he is re-elected.

Commissioning one of his flagship Community Day Schools in Frafraha in the Greater Accra Region Friday, the president said education standards are getting better year by year.
“Let nobody mislead you, our education system is getting better and better every year. It is my commitment, Insha Allah, that if I continue to be president, we shall continue to invest heavily in education and improve the performance of our educational system,” he said.
“Our educational system has become attractive to all of West Africa. We are seeing increasing number of students coming from other West African countries to come and study here in Ghana because our education system is much better and is performing well than the system in their country,” he said.

President Mahama also said his administration has “eliminated” schools under trees by providing classroom blocks.

“In the Greater Accra Region, we have largely eliminated the shift system by building new school, expanding all the schools to allow all the children to go to school at the same time,” he said.

According to him, his government met a situation were three pupils shared one textbook.
“Today, averagely, in all the schools, each child has four textbook to himself, ” he said.
