EC leading Ghana into a ditch – NPP

The Director of Elections of the New Patriotic Party Martin Agyei Mensah Korsah has said the Electoral Commission is leading Ghana into an abyss with its stance on the voters register.

According to him, the EC has no idea how to clean the electoral roll even though it has rejected proposals to develop a new one.

The Electoral Commission has rejected the requests for a new voters’ register based on the recommendations of a five-member panel tasked to assess all concerns raised against the register by mainly, members of the opposition New Patriotic Party.

The commission has instead opted for cleaning the register of illegal entries.

Reacting to the EC’s position on the matter, Agyei Mensah told Fiifi Banson on Kasapa FM Monday that the country is on the brink with such an intransigent posture from the electoral body.

“They are suggesting that we clean the register but did not provide measures on how to do that. Clearly, they have no idea how that cleaning is going to be done.

“If we are not careful they (EC) will take us into a ditch where we cannot return…whatever they want, they will have it” he fumed.

He, however, noted that the NPP will come out with its official position on the matter since they are now studying the response which has been submitted to them by the commission following the recommendation of the five-member panel.
