EC Insists National Health Insurance Card Cannot Be Used For Limited Voter Registration

The Director of Elections at the Electoral Commission, Samuel Tettey has restated that the National Health Insurance card is not a valid document for registration in the upcoming limited voter registration.

Rather a passport, driver’s license and a National ID are the accepted documents for the registration.

Mr Tettey was speaking on GBC’s Current Affairs Programme “Talking Point”, which discussed the upcoming limited voter registration which starts on Thursday, the 28th of this month.http://ghanapoliticsonline.com

Mr Tettey also spoke on the difficulty in determining whether an applicant is of the required age to register and what is to be done in such cases.

The Director of Communication and Corporate Affairs at the NCCE, Joyce Afutu reiterated the essence of educating the public on the Limited Voter Registration.

She said the exercise will take place in two phases.

The first will start this Thursday while the second takes place from the 4th to 8th May.

A Lecturer at the Political Science Department of University of Ghana, Dr Kumi Ansah Koi cautioned stakeholders of the electoral process not to operate above the Law.http://ghanapoliticsonline.com

He said the application of law to educate the public is the only way the process can run smoothly.
