EC to boost security at polling centres after attacks

The Electoral Commission (EC) has assured of adequate security at all centres for the limited registration exercise.

It follows the destruction of registration equipment after thugs stormed a centre in Asokwa and also took away a handheld scanner.

They also made away with Form C1 which contains personal data of those whose registrations have been challenged.

A statement signed by the EC’s Deputy Chair Amadu Sulley assures the public of its resolve to carry out the exercise despite the intimidations.http://ghanapoliticsonline.com

The case has since been reported to the police who’ve arrested one person.

In a related development, the NPP’s agent at a registration centre in Jomoro in the Western Region, Nyamke Bartolommeo says he’s been assaulted by the DCE for the area after he prevented some suspected Ivorians from registering at the centre.

He tells JOYNEWS the DCE, George William Somiah hit him in the chest several times and tore the EC’s registration booklet in his possession.
