President John Dramani Mahama has downplayed claims by his critics that the construction of roads in the country does not put food on the table of Ghanaians.
Reacting to the ‘we don’t eat roads’ criticism by the opposition in an interview on Radio Savannah in the Northern Region Thursday, the President said “roads are literally food that can be eaten.”
According to him, “ultimately we eat roads” since foods that are sold on the markets are brought by vehicles that ply these roads.”
He added saying: “if the roads are good we will be able to evacuate more food to the markets which in turn can even influence the rate of inflation and enhance transportation with many indirect benefits.”
President Mahama also believes the construction of roads is equally important as building of hospitals, schools, factories among others.
“All these social intervention make this country a better place, and propel it to an era of prosperity,” President Mahama said.
The President who is currently in the Northern Region on his ‘Accounting to the People Tour’ is expected to cut sod for the commencement of a number of projects in the region as well as inspect and commission completed projects.
He has so far inaugurated the first phase of the Aboabo market and the Engineering Laboratory for Tamale Polytechnic.
