Dr. Arthur Kennedy faces suspension from NPP

A leading member of the New Patriotic Party, Dr. Arthur Kennedy, who has been critical of the party’s leadership, faces suspension for his latest comments against the flag-bearer, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

In his latest epistle, Dr. Kennedy said: “I do not think that he [Nana Akufo-Addo] is a respectful democratic leader and someone who respects democracy…if you ask me from the bottom of my heart whether I respect Nana Akufo-Addo as a leader then I will say no, I don’t, I respect him as an elder of the party.”

Some 22 members of the party have consequently petitioned the Disciplinary Committee of the party to suspend Dr. Kennedy who one time contested for the presidential candidature of the party.

Deputy General Secretary of the party, Nana Obiri Boahene who confirmed the filing of the petition has indicated the party would not take lightly comments that seek to disrespect the party’s position.

This comes on the back of the suspension of the General Secretary of the party Kwabena Agyepong, and the 2nd Vice Chair Sammy Crabbe on Thursday for their conduct which the party considered to be contemptuous and affront to the party’s constitution.

Mr. Obiri Boahene, said: “I cannot give you the full disclosure of the content of the petition but I can tell you that 22 people have filed a petition against Mr. Arthur Kennedy.

“The matter is supposed to go before the Disciplinary Committee and they would go into it in a proper judicial manner then they’d refer their decision to the National Executive Committee.”

Nana Obiri Boahene, however, denied reports that the NPP has become increasingly intolerant of divergent views of its members, especially those holding elected position.

He said, “that is never correct. Once you join the party, then you must be prepared to go by the rules of our party. If you are not prepared to follow our laid down rules then I’m sorry we would show you the exit.

“For instance, Dr. Arthur Kennedy, a man who see himself as more intelligent than all of us, describing our flagbearer as somebody who has disappointed him… and still you want to be a member of the party?

“Everyone can make a comment but certain uncomplimentary comments, irresponsible comments, unnecessary comments do not bode well for the party.”
