Dery’s lawyer threaten action against GJA over Anas’ Journalist of the Year award

Lawyer for one of the High Court judges implicated in the judicial corruption scandal has condemned the Ghana Journalist Association (GJA) for awarding the mastermind of the shocking exposé that landed his client in trouble.

Nii Kpakpo Addo says the Journalist of the Year award conferred on Anas Aremeyaw Anas over the weekend is shameful and is in contempt of court.

“The Supreme Court of this country has stated that the action of Anas Aremeyaw Anas and Tiger Eye are unlawful in respect of showing the said video to the general public. Secondly there are ongoing court proceedings and you still go ahead and say you are awarding the person. It is wrong. It is actually in contempt of court,” an enraged Nii Kpakpo Addo told Joy News.

Anas emerged the Journalist of the Year 2015 for exposing some 22 Lower Court Judges and 12 High Court Judges who were caught on tape taking bribes to undermine justice.

Justice Dery, who is one of the twelve High Court justices caught on the tape, has not rested since the exposé, insisting among other things that a public showing of a video of the undercover report was unlawful.

Nii Kpakpo Addo revealed his client is considering taking up the matter.

Should the matter go to court, it will not be the first time the embattled judge has sought to redeem his image since the exposé.

In February this year, the Supreme Court dismissed a suit he brought seeking to quash impeachment proceedings against him.
