Controversial Movie producer, Socrates Sarfo says Apart from the Deputy Sector minister, Dzifa Gomashi for Tourism Culture and Creative Arts who knows and understands the nitty gritties of the industry, the rest of the staff at the ministry including the Minister Hon Elizabeth Ofosu Adjare are ignorant about the industry’ he claimed.
He disclosed that the minister recently refused to assist in the organization of the just ended Black Stars Film festival which was aimed at promoting the film industry, something that should have originally been promoted by the ministry.
He added that persistent pleas by the organizers to the minister for assistance yielded no results and that is a clear indication that the minister is ignorant about the role of such festivals in promoting tourism and creative arts in the country since such events attract large numbers of patrons including foreigners who come to the country to spend huge sums of money.
The vociferous movie producer indicated that the creative arts industry is the fourth most lucrative business in the world after drugs, oil and arms business but it is poorly managed in Ghana.
He opined that until experts are placed at the helm of affairs to implement sound policies that can transform the industry, it will be difficult for the creative arts to grow in Ghana
The known NPP sympathizer ended by saying the Deputy Minister is far better than the minister
