Demo against Mahama in UK a joke – NDC

UK chapter of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has ridiculed the intended demonstration against President Mahama in that country.

A group of Ghanaians calling themselves the Concerned Citizens of Ghana have planned a demonstration against the President who is currently in the UK for an anti-corruption conference.

According to the group, President Mahama’s poor handling of the economy and the increasing cases of corruption in the country makes him unfit to rule the country.

The Chairman of the NDC Chapter in the UK, Kofi Kwakye told Citi News that there is absolutely no basis for the said demonstration.

Though he conceded that the group has the right to protest, Kofi Kwakye said: “what they are demonstrating about is a bit funny and a bit of a joke.”

He argued that because Ghana is not isolated and is also open to the international community, “they [international community] know what is going on in Ghana. So if what they [group] are saying is true, the international community will know and if what they are saying is not true, they will become a laughing stock.”

“What they are doing is counterproductive, I don’t think it will benefit them in any way, it will not benefit the country so I don’t see the point in wasting your time going to stand on the streets of London with placards and saying things which they themselves know very well that they are not true. So from where I’m sitting I think it’s a bit of a joke,” he added.

We know what’s happening in Ghana

The Convener of the Concerned Ghanaians Living in the UK, Nana Owusu Forjour in an earlier interview with Citi News said they will express their frustrations to the President at the conference.

“Anything that happens in Ghana we are aware. In this modern world, we know everything by logging on to citifmonline.com so everything that goes on in Ghana, we know and we hear.

Can you imagine our oil money of about GHc3.6 million being used to brand a bus without going through a procurement process, how? Just recently, Dr. Bawumia just told the world that the Finance Minister has lodged a startling amount of $250 million and they have given us all kind of reason. You can take that to the marines,” he said.
