We demanded increment since July 2016 -NSS

The Deputy Executive Secretary for National Service Scheme, Dr. Carl Mark-Arhin has justified reasons for the increment of the National Service workers allowance and cautioned individuals to halt politicizing the upward adjustment because it is two-year routine.

According to Dr. Carl Mark-Arhin, The increment has followed due process over the last six months before the approval. He also stated that, Service personnel in 2014 were paid GHC 249 before it was reviewed and increased to GHC 350.

According to him, the approval for the increment was done some few months ago but they had to deliberate over it at the board level before bringing it to public.

He therefore, refuted claims that the outgoing Mahama-led administration was creating impediments for the president-elect Nana Addo’s incoming administration saying, President Mahama still remains the president until he hands over to the new administration hence reserves the right to discharge his duties as such.

“Those making such claims are only expressing their personal opinion. Our request for increment started about six months ago and after it has been approved, we reserve the right to make it public. The increment is not political and was not done in secrecy. It went through processes before approval was done. We should not politicize this issue. We should rather commend the NSS for such an act.’’
