Our decison to withdraw assault case is in the interest of the party-Hon. Collins Owusu Amankwah

The Member of Parliament for Manhyia North Hon. Collins Owusu Amankwah and his constituency secretary, Felix Ibrahim who were allegedly assaulted by the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), have said that, their decision to withdraw the case was in the interest of the party.

The legislator and his constituency secretary wrote to the Kumasi Magistrate Court asking them to drop all charges brought against Mr. Bernard Antwi Bosiako as known as Chairman Wontumi.http://ghanapoliticsonline.com

In a letter written by council for the Manhyia North MP and their other client in the case, Felix Ibrahim, they indicated that their clients now intend to pursue an out of court settlement. Chairman Wontumi was today granted bail in the sum of GHC 20, 000 by the Asokwa Magistrate Court after he was detained overnight by the Police. The Asokwa District Magistrate court granted him bail in the sum of 20,000cedis with two sureties. One of the sureties should have a landed property or deposit an amount of 10,000cedis.

The presiding judge His Lordship Owusu Korkor adjourned proceedings to June 1, 2016 to enable the complainants and the defendants settle the case out of court. Speaking to Nyankonton Mu Nsem, the regional organizer of the elephant family, Mr. Stephen Amoah said the constituency secretary confirmed to him that, he redrew the case after some senior members of the party confronted him. According to him, the MP also withdrew the case after he was approached by senior members of the party. The NPP Regional Chairman turned himself in to the police yesterday after he was declared wanted by police following allegations of assault leveled against him by Mr. Amankwah and Mr. Ibrahim. http://ghanapoliticsonline.com

He was arraigned today before the Asokwa Magistrate Court where he is reported to have pleaded not guilty to charges and have subsequently been given bail.

Allegations of unseen hands: The NPP accused the NDC of orchestration the arrest of Chairman Wontumi to have their way through the limited registration exercise. Regional Secretary, Samuel Payne in an interview with Nyankonton Mu Nsem said they will not be intimidated by the tactics and strategy adopted by the governing party. He posited that they will continue to monitor and observe the registration exercise and ensure that the NDC do not register minors of foreigners.
