DCOP Awuni to be buried May 7

The late Eastern Regional Police Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Angwubutoge Awuni, who died on March 14, 2016 will be buried on Saturday, May 7, 2016.

Mr Awuni, who died after a short illness at the Police Hospital in Accra, was known for his honest and frank talk and had many brushes with political authorities.

A family member, who disclosed the date for the final funeral rites and burial said the family, after consultation, agreed on May 5 to 8, 2016.

According to the source, the family was yet to firm up the decision on where to bury the man who was widely described as exceptionally outspoken.
“We have not yet agreed on where to bury him. We are torn between Accra and his home town.”

The funeral service, it said, would be held on the premises of the Ghana National Police Training School at Tesano in Accra.
The ceremony would be followed by a thanksgiving and memorial service at the Christ Apostolic Church at Osu on May 8, 2016.

Mr Awuni, who rose through the ranks in the Ghana Police Service, was a trained journalist who later obtained a master of governance and leadership from the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA).

He joined the service on March 8,1985 and progressed from his first appointment as chief inspector to a DCOP on July 30, 2014.GhanaPoliticsOnline.Com

Mr Awuni served as the district and divisional police commander in Tema in the Greater Accra Region, Yendi in the Northern Region and later became the commander of the same region.

He was appointed public relations officer of the Police Service on September 17, 2001.

Until his appointment as the Eastern Regional commander by the Inspector General of Police, John Kudalor, he was the Director General of the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD).

On October 22, 2010, Mr Awuni was appointed the Commanding Officer of the then Motor Traffic and Transport Unit (MTTU) now MTTD, Accra, after he had served as the Northern Regional police commande
