Dark CLOUD OVER ECG:…Management Fingered In Secret Plot To Sabotage Govt?

Management of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has been fingered in a secret plot to cause public disaffection for John Dramani Mahama’s administration.

Intelligence picked up by the Citizens Mail newspaper indicates that some management members of the ECG have had secret meetings with the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) on the modus operandi of the agenda.

At 3pm on Thursday May 19, 2016, the ECG top hierarchy completed a top-secret meeting with some NPP representatives and concluded plans to cause rampant power outages and industrial actions to protest the government’s plan to cede some management of the state power supplier to private companies.

The ECG management are terrified about the possibility of losing their jobs when the policy is implemented.

Government’s plan is either to hold on to assets of the company and find partners to run ECG for about 20 to 30 years or sell its shares in ECG to private entities to run the company. Whichever option government chooses will definitely result in some changes in management.

The second compact of the USA funded Millennium Development Account (MDA) qualifies Ghana for a US$500 million grant that will be pumped into the energy sector. However, this requires efficient management, hence the possible restructuring of the ECG.

The top management of the company are clearly unhappy about this move, making them an easy prey to NPP manipulation. The main opposition party has capitalized on this discontent to encourage them to embark on certain activities to sabotage power supply in the coming months with promises of juicy deals if the party should win power in the November general elections, our intelligence sources reveal.

Power supply is an extremely sensitive area where a possible sabotage will obviously affect majority of the Ghanaian consumers.

The main opposition party is therefore banking its hopes on whipping public sentiments against the erratic power supply and high electricity tariffs in the hope of winning the elections, and the plan to influence the ECG top management to artificially compound this problem is one that is being taken seriously, the Mail can confirm.

After bold and swift policy decisions to end the power rationing programme (popularly tagged “Dumsor) the Mahama administration is about to face a tough task of diffusing the diabolic plans hatched between the top management of the ECG and the NPP.

The potential menace is causing uproar within the ruling party, giving technocrats in government sleepless nights trying to find solutions, while the NPP is gleefully relishing the impact of the pact with the ECG top tier, this paper gathered.

The NPP has gone to town, with misleading information that utility bills of consumers are higher than rent and that it is a deliberate ploy by an insensitive government to bring untold hardship to Ghanaians.

Our intelligence sources indicate the ECG is not the only target of the NPP. They have apparently succeeded in wooing some labour union leaders to in the coming months, organize a planned “Volcanic eruption” of civil protests and nationwide labour strikes to destabilize the Mahama administration.

The intelligence gathered by this paper indicates that the planned industrial actions, are to test the grounds of their support and disaffection against the government should they start their instability agenda in case they lose the election.

This destabilizing agenda is code-named “Attacking the Pillars of Democracy”.

The party has already been exposed for smuggling in mercenaries from Serbia and South Africa to specifically train its members, tagged as bodyguards for the Presidential candidate, his Vice and few high profile party executives.

The instigation of mass protests and labor unrest according to deep throaty sources will involve NPP apparatchiks mobilizing civil society groups into what is termed a movement for change, which currently has the active involvement of groups like IMANI Ghana, Occupy Ghana, Let My Vote Count, Alliance for Accountable Governance, among others .

Lawyer Akoto Ampaw- one of NPP’s prominent lawyers gave an insight into this plan on April 13, 2015 when he made a presentation to STAR-Ghana, the local representative of multinational donor agency.

The plan, which was experimented with Occupy Ghana recently includes mass gatherings, demonstrations, public meetings, petitions and mass campaigns and the use of selected media and social media houses “to propagate its vision, ideals and goals.”

Mr. Ampaw, a staunch NPP strategist and a former partner in the law firm of the current NPP flagbearer Nana Addo Danquah Akufo Addo, described the new strategy as a new form of “social movement” in Ghana, said it will be similar to what the country experienced during past military regimes and pre-independence civil unrests.
