CPP Fails To Meet EC’s Deadline

The Convention People’s Party (CPP) may not be on the ballot paper for this year’s elections as the party was unable to submit its nomination fees to the Electoral Commission (EC).

The party on Monday has failed to present the banker’s drafts of GH¢50,000 for its presidential nominee and GH¢10,000 each for all of its parliamentary nominees by the 12noon deadline set by the EC.

The party’s chairman, Professor Edmund Delle who was at the EC’s headquarters, explained to the EC Chairperson that officials of the party were still going through processes to get the bank draft for onward submission to the Commission.

However, by mid-day when the EC chairperson, Mrs. Charlotte Osei declared the processes closed, party officials had still not showed up with the banker’s drafts.

Meanwhile, 14 out of the 17 aspirants who had filed to contest the December 7 polls have submitted their nomination fees.

They are; Ghana Freedom Party (GFP), United Progressive Party (UPP), Reformed Patriotic Democrats (RPD), New Patriotic Party (NPP), National Democratic Congress (NDC), and Progressive People’s Party (PPP).

The rest are; Great Consolidated People’s Party (GCPP), United Front Party (UFP), People’s National Convention (PNC), All People’s Congress (APC), National Democratic Party (NDP), and the Independent People’s Party (IPP).

Two independent candidates, Joseph Osei Yeboah (JOY) and Kwame Asiedu also submitted their nomination fees.
