Court issues bench warrant for Minister’s arrest

The High court in Ho has issued a bench warrant for the arrest of the Minister for Water Resources, Works and Housing, Dr Kwaku Agyemang-Mensah for failing to appear before the court on five occasions.

Dr Agyemang-Mensah is wanted in court to answer a contempt motion filed against him in connection with properties destroyed in the execution of the Ada Sea Defence Project.

Failure to appear The court presided over by Mr Justice Patrick Baayeh, said the minister had failed to appear before the court to answer the charge of contempt leveled against him and accordingly instructed the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to apprehend him to appear at the court on April 15, 2016.

He is to appear before the court with the director of the ministry, Alhaji Ziblim Yakubu and director of hydrological services, Mr Owusu Ansah.

The case The plaintiffs in the case are Zikpuitor Fenu Benjamin Atsu and Marshall Koblah Fenu who contend that the defendants, being the supervisors of the project being undertaken by Dredging International Company from Netherlands, had failed to take action to safeguard their land, property and amenities as well as causing environmental destruction and degradation.
