Council of State ‘most useless institution’ – Maurice Ampaw

private legal practitioner, Maurice Ampaw has called for the dissolution of the Council of State following its recommendation which led to the pardoning of the three persons serving a four month jail term for criminal contempt.

A radio host with the Accra based Montie FM, Salifu Maase and two panelists, Alistair Nelson and Godwin Ako-Gunn were found guilty of scandalizing the court and sentenced to four months in prison.

Barely a month after being in jail, the three can now heave a sigh of freedom following the remission of their sentence after a recommendation by the Council of State.

But Maurice Ampaw on Adom News Monday said, the Council of State has proven beyond reasonable doubt that it has outlived its usefulness.

“The Council of State is the most useless institution; it has proven that it does not give the President wise counsel,” he fumed.

The outspoken lawyer could not fathom why President Mahama will grant pardon to people who had threatened to rape the Chief Justice, Mrs Georgina Theodora Wood and kill other judges who sat on a case brought against the Electoral Commission.

“President Mahama has brought the name of the judiciary into disrepute; I call on the judges to go on strike,” he stated.

Maurice Ampaw called on Ghanaians to reject President Mahama in the December 7 elections for endorsing impunity.
