Controversial UK diplomat set to leave in July

Controversial British High Commissioner to Ghana, Jon Benjamin, is set to officially come to an end of his service.

According to close sources, Iain Walker would walk into the office when Benjamin’s time comes to an end in July 2017.

Jon Benjamin’s time as the British High Commission for Ghana, Togo, Burkina Faso and Benin was fraught with a number of controversies.
Late last year, he was the target of social media vitriol after he tweeted a joke that appeared to mock Ghana’s ex-president John Mahama who had lost an election a few days earlier.

“Oh, that nasty air outside all of a sudden. Did someone inaugurate the Harmattan already?”, he tweeted.
He was also recently involved in a social media war of words with Ghana’s coach Avram Grant’s agent.
However, the diplomat is highly commended for his use of social media to connect with ordinary Ghanaians and quickly answering questions about visa application to the UK.
