Case against Constitution Review Commission dismissed

The Supreme Court on Wednesday dismissed a case brought before it, which sought to challenge the legality of the Constitution Review Commission.

A US-based Ghanaian professor, Stephen Kwaku Asare, filed a suit at the Supreme Court, seeking eight reliefs including to nullify the constitution review process currently underway.

He had argued primarily that the executive acted unlawfully by setting up the Commission to review the constitution.

The professor insisted that the commission has no power to schedule a referendum or to amend the Constitution.

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court, chaired by the Chief Justice, Georgina Wood said the case has no merit and has subsequently scheduled October 29, to publish the reasons for the ruling.
