Cape Coast to get airport soon – President Mahama

The Central Regional capital of Cape Coast is set receive a local airport which would largely serve tourists, President John Mahama has hinted.

According to him, “Cape Coast is the destination of choice when it comes to tourism in Ghana and so uplifting and improving facilities there inures to the benefit of Ghana”.

In line with this Cape Coast is one of the areas designated by the Ghana Airports Company to receive a “mini airport” in the next leg of constructions after the Ho and Wa airports are completed.

This “aerodrome that can take tourists to Cape Casts and bring them back to Accra” will improve tourism which will, in turn, improve government’s income for more development.

Taking his turn on GBC’s Encounters with presidential candidates on Wednesday, he stated projects like the resurfacing and marking of Cape Coast roads, improvement of street lighting system, construction of the road to the Kakum National Park, construction of the new Cape Coast stadium, modernisation of the Kotokuraba Market and the construction of the John Evans Atta Mills Presidential Library were all part of efforts to make Cape Coast more attractive to tourists.

“A lot of work has gone on in Cape Coast and we will continue to do much work there”, he added.
