Calls for Sack of Kyei Mensah and Nitiwul intensifies

Pressure continues to mount on the leadership of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) to sanction the Minority Leader Osei Kyei-Mensah Bonsu and his Deputy Domnic Nitiwul for allegedly flouting portions of the party’s constitution.

The duo were over the weekend literally campaigning for colleague National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament (MP) Nadowli Kaleo constituency and Majority Leader Alban Kingsford Sumani Bagbin believed to be in a stiffer competition ahead of the party’s parliamentary primary slated for November 21.

Some party supporters in the Upper West region are arguing that both have breached party’s Constitution citing Article 3H (1) which states “a member of the party who stands as an independent candidate against the officially elected member of the party or who joins or declares his or her support for another political party, or for an independent candidate when the party has sponsored a candidate in a general or by-election automatically forfeits his or her membership of the party”.

They maintain that per the above constitutional provision, Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu and Dominic Nitiwul should be suspended from the party and must hence stop holding themselves as members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) let alone hold themselves as members of parliament on the ticket of the party.

The Minority leader in parliament it will be recalled mounted a strong campaign for the majority leader to be retained as the parliamentary candidate of the NDC in the Nadowli -Kaleo stating that attempts to get the veteran MP out of parliament will be an indictment on Ghana’s democracy.

The Bimbilla law maker was also quoted as saying that the position occupied by Mr. Bagbin is so powerful to the extent that he wished he was the one leading the House but both have come under fierce criticisms what many described as a slap in the face of the NPP.
