Call for my arrest is needless-Mavis Ama Frimpong

The Eastern Regional Minister who doubles as the parliamentary candidate for the Abirem Constituency on the ticket of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), Madam Mavis Ama Frimpong has described as needless calls by her opponents for her arrest for impersonation. According to her, the printing and incription on the exercise books that has generated the controversy was a typing mistake.

The NPP has called for the arresrt of the Minister for impersonation. According to the party, the aspiring MP was holding herself as an MP for Abirem, and had distributed books to pupils in her constituency with the caption: ‘Mavis Ama Frimpong, MP for Abirem’.

The party says it is a delibarte attempt by the Minister to impersonate the current MP, Ms. Esther Obeng Dapaah of the NPP.

But speaking in an exclusive interview with Nyankonton Mu Nsem on Rainbow Radio 87.5Fm, the Minister explained that, she will never impersonate anyone neither will she take up a position which is not for her. She said, just as she does every year, she ordered for the printing of some 3, 000 exercise books for distribution to pupils in the constituency. Her old contractor she revealed, could not meet the deadline in printing the books so she had to employ the services of another printer/contractor who made the mistake that has prompted the NPP to call for her arrest.

”I save money from my salary every year to print books for pupils in my constituency. And this year was not an exception. My picture is usually embossed on the exercise books so the young ones will see me as a role model.

My picture is not only embossed on exercise books but mathematical sets. The District Director of Education told me that the number of pupils had increased to 3, 000 so we had to print more books, but my printer could not meet the deadline so we employed the services of another printer.

The new printer was ordered to print 1, 000 copies and that was where we had the error. It was a printing mistake and not impersonation.” Mavis Ama Frimpong added that, the caption should have been: ‘Hon Mavis Ama Frimpong For Abirem MP and not Mavis Ama Frimpong MP for Abirem.’

She wondered why the NPP failed to commend her effort but want to rather feed on the typing mistake to paint her black. She commended the incumbent MP for her contribution to the development of the constituency over the last 12 years as MP but added that, the electorates have decided to vote for her this year.
