BNI Frees Marbles & Granite MD

The Managing Director of quarry firm Marbles and Granite, Dr. Edmund Ayo Ani, has been released by the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI).

National Security Adviser Baba Kamara had said he caused Dr Ayo Ani to be picked up on Friday for allegedly taking pictures of some 50 Mahindra vehicles, and circulating them on social with a claim that the cars, allegedly meant for the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), were being appropriated by the governing National Democratic Congress for political campaigns.

The office of the Marbles & Granite MD shares a wall with the compound where the vehicles are kept.

Lawyers for the MD confirmed to Samson Lardy Anyenini on Multi TV’s Newsfile programme on Saturday April 2 that their client was, indeed, picked up by the BNI on Friday April 1.

They say his arrest followed his insistence on not writing a statement as demanded by the security officials, who initially interrogated him over the matter.

The compound on which the vehicles were parked allegedly belonged to Mr Kamara. Lawyers for the company’s MD say their client was not responsible for the pictures and their circulation on social media.
