Ayensuano chiefs endorse President Mahama

President Mahama (arrowed) being mobbed by supporters at AkrosoForty-nine chiefs of the Ayensuono traditional area have openly endorsed President John Mahama’s second term bid and declared their support for him in the run-up to the next month’s election.

The chiefs revealed, the Ayensuono District has accordingly witnessed overwhelming development under President Mahama’s administration, and would therefore want him to continue leading the country for progress.

Nana Kwabena Kuma I, chief of Anum Apapam welcoming President Mahama to Apapam on Monday evening, for a rally as part of his campaign tour of the region, said although chiefs are not expected to engage in active party politics, it behoves on them to speak the truth.

“The truth is that President Mahama and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has done a lot for us,” he said, adding that “we the 49 chiefs of Ayensuono and all the Zongo chiefs endorse you and pray for your victory”.

He described as unprecedented the number of projects undertaken by the NDC administration in the area, and thanked the government granting Ayensuono, which was carved out of the Suhum-Kroboa-Coaltar district, a district status.

With the district status, he said Ayensuono will continue to benefit from development projects, citing the building of a community day senior high school, a hospital, water supply systems, construction of link roads, a police station and other interventions, which he said has boosted the progress of the district.

He, however, called for more projects, and expressed optimism that the district would continue to get its fair share of national development.

The constituency seat has been a reserve of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), but the ruling NDC is keen on winning it and others, through its “Agenda 50″ plan to secure at least half of the parliamentary seats in the Eastern Region.

President Mahama, addressing the rally attended by hundreds of residents of Anum Apapam and surrounding towns, was confident that the high turnout would translate into a massive win for him and the NDC’s parliamentary candidates in the district.

He thanked the chiefs for the show of support in appreciation of the performance of the government, saying it was pathetic that others are pretending not to have seen the good works of his administration.

“But God is my witness,” he said, and assured the district of more projects.

From Anum Apapam, President Mahama moved to Suhum where he was mobbed by thousands of supporters who had waited for him into the night.

Addressing a rally , he thanked the supporters for the show of love for the party and urged them to be focused on the campaign by informing non NDC members about the achievements of the government.

He also promised Suhum more development in his next term, and asked the residents not to waste their votes by voting for the NPP.

Earlier, Osabarima Ayeh Kofi, Paramount Chief of Suhum traditional area, welcoming the President, urged the residents to vote wisely.

According to the Suhum chief, the people are all witnesses to what the government has been able to do for the area, therefore they should be able to judge and vote.

“It is not for me to tell people who to vote for because the performances are there for people to decide who is best to lead us,” he said.

He commended the government for the various infrastructure projects in the area and prayed for more.
