Ayariga’s APC opens nomination with GhC100,000 filing fee

Individuals with presidential ambition who wish to run on the ticket of Hassan Ayariga’s newly formed All People’s Congress (APC), would have to cough up a whooping GHC100,000 to contest the party’s primaries ahead of this year’s November 7 polls.

The cost of picking and filing of the Presidential nomination forms is GHS 5,000.00 and GHC95,000.00 respectively, totaling GHC100,000.00 APC’s presidential filing fee becomes the highest in the history of Ghana’s democratic governance following that of the opposition New Patriotic Party’s figure of GHC85,000 charged ahead of its 2014 primaries.

The ruling NDC pegged its own at GHC 50,000 for male flagbearer aspirants and a 50 per cent rebate for female aspirants.

Speaking to Citi News, Razak Kojo Opoku, the General Secretary of the APC said nomination is open to the general public, especially card bearing members of the party who are of good standing in accordance with the provisions of the party.

According to him, the nomination for the 2016 Presidential Candidate of the party commences from Monday 16th May 2016 to Friday 20th May 2016.

He said the party is currently holding constituency and regional elections, and that by the first week of June, it will hold its first national delegates congress in Kumasi to elect national officers.

Mr. Kojo Poku said the presidential aspirants will then be presented to delegates after the nomination. He entreated all interested and eligible party members to pick up nomination forms from his office at the party Headquarters at Haatso-Westland (west Legon) between 10am-1pm each day.

The APC General Secretary said the deadline for filing the forms is Monday 23rd May 2016 at 6pm prompt and the vetting process of prospective Candidates will be on Wednesday, 25th May, 2016 at the Party Headquarters.

APC was formed out of the PNC Mr. Hassan Ayariga, who contested the Presidential elections on the ticket of the People’s National Convention (PNC) in 2012, broke away to form the APC after he lost his bid to lead the PNC for the second time.
