Management of the recently introduced Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) has said the “Ayalolo” buses have been finally insured and hence are back on the streets today [Wednesday, September 28].
A test run for the BRT system was suspended on Tuesday after some commuters refused to board the buses on Monday September 26 because the vehicles were unlicensed.
In an interview with Pulse.com.gh, Marketing and Communications Manager of the Greater Accra Passenger Transport Executive explained that operations were suspended due to some communication challenges encountered on the first day.
He said the challenge was mainly “with the log system which provided information such as when or where passengers would alight to drivers.”
Roland Bruce further added that the pilot programme for the service was suspended “to train the drivers on how to use the system to facilitate non-obstructive communication between them and passengers.”
Scores of residents on Monday, September 26, 2016 enjoyed free rides as a test run for the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system began in Accra.
The new transport system is expected to improve vehicular movement and reduce delays on some busy streets and ultimately bring relief to motorists.
Roland Bruce, the PRO of the Greater Accra Passenger Transport Executive said nine buses have been deployed for the BRT system.
The temporary free bus ride will be only available for passengers on one of the four routes under the BRT service that is, Amasaman through Achimota to Circle and then to Tudu, at the Central Business District.
