Ashanti Chief destooled for serving as a polling agent for NDC

A sub-chief (Ankobeahene) of Essienimpong near Ejisu in the Ashanti region, Nana Ekon Ansah Boafo has been destooled for acting as a polling station agent for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) during just ended the December 7 polls.

Ankobeahene’s stool was taken from him by the kingmakers after playing salient the role of polling agent in the just ended general elections.

According to the Kingmakers, he discounted his traditional functions and rather chose to act politically, an act which according to the king makers violates tradition of the town.

Speaking on Nhyira FM, Nana Ekon Ansah Boafo said for the respect of tradition he has accepted his destoolment wholeheartedly but believes his direct participation in the NDC activity is the cause of his plight now.

He added that he is a member of the ruling National Democratic Congress and has been a polling agent since 1992 for the NDC when he was not yet a chief, because the party don’t get anyone to represent the NDC at a particular polling station hence his decision to serve as an agent in the just ended elections.

However, Linguist for Essienimponghene, Okyeame Anaafi, in a rejoinder to the Ankobeahene’s comment claimed the sub-chief was destooled over his inability to be part of the entourage of the Essienimponhene, Nana Kwaku Appiah on the December 7th voting day to monitor the exercise and not because he served as an NDC polling agent.

Okyeame Anaafi added that family members of the Ankobeahene, Nana Ekon Ansah Boafo failed to stand in his stead when he was summoned before the chief, Nana Kwaku Appia hence the decision of the Kingmakers.
