Arrest any pastor who issues death threats – Frimpong Manso

The Christian Council of Ghana is urging the Ghana Police Service to arrest and prosecute any pastor who issues death threats on colleagues or citizens.

According to the group, no ‘Man of God’ is above the law, and all should be dealt with if they engage in any criminal activity.

General Secretary of the Council, Rev. Dr. Kwabena Opuni-Frimpong made the call on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Monday.

His call is in reaction to a death threat issued by the founder and leader of the International Godsway Church, Bishop Daniel Obinim during a radio banter with Rev. Owusu Bempah.

The latter had accused the former of engaging in occultism and in reaction, Bishop Obinim said he will make sure the founder and leader of Glorious Word and Power Ministry International does not see the light of day.

But Rev. Opuni-Frimpong said such utterances should not be taken lightly by the police just because the person is a pastor.

He indicated that no true Man of God will ever threaten to take the life of a fellow human being even when he [pastor] is right

“Threatening to kill somebody is out of the realm of religion, you are into crime. It is a statement that when the police (hear), they must arrest the person,” he stressed.

The Christian Council General Secretary could not fathom why the police will act swiftly when a politician threatens to kill his opponent but do not use the same yardstick on pastors.

“When pastors break the law, the law must take its course because the mere fact that somebody walks to us in the name of God, doesn’t mean the person is over and above the law in this country” he added.

Rev. Opuni-Frimpong underscored the need for the true pastors to expose the charlatans denigrating the work of God in the country.
