The Minister for Food and Agriculture, Alhaji Mohammed Muniru has accused the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Presidential candidate, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo -Addo of making promises which the ministry and the Mahama led administration are already fulfilling.
“We are already doing what Nana Addo is promising; he is promising and we are fulfilling”, he claimed.
In an interview with Ekourba Gyasi on Atinka AM Drive, Alhaji Mohammed Muniru mentioned that the ministry has a programme called Ghana Commercial Agricultural Project (GCAP). He added that the project has rehabilitated a number of dams in the Upper East and the Northern regions of Ghana which includes the Via irrigation and Botanga irrigation projects.
He mentioned that another irrigation project which is expected to produce about 3000 hectares of rain water is currently underway. He stated that the first stage provided about 480 hectares of rain water.
He added that aside other irrigation projects which he has lost count of, the President recently cut the sword for another irrigation system for Tamne irrigation systems which is expected to provide about 225 hectares of irrigable lands.
According to the Minister, since 2009, the ministry has developed about 3,625 hectares of irrigable lands and has rehabilitated about 24,000 hectares of land for irrigation.
