Akufo-Addo’s Addison Catches Fever In MP Race

As Cheated Nii Noi Independent Posters Pop Up

The chances of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), is expected to dwindle further in the Klottey Korle Constituency of the Greater Accra Region, as the threat by Valentino Nii Noi Nortey, to go independent, has been put into full force with his posters all over the Constituency.

The Herald, has spotted Nii Noi Nortey’s posters in many parts of the Constituency. This is said to be sending shivers down the spines of Lawyer Philip Addison, and his supporters.

Lawyer Addison, a protégé of Nana Akufo-Addo, the NPP flagbearer is not popular on the ground. Those who voted for him, are seen as being easily influenced with cash and personality cult.

This comes, as the increasingly unpopular Ursula Owusu, another protégé of Mr. Akufo-Addo, is most likely to see another party member, challenging her in the Ablekuma West Constituency, as an independent candidate. Her Constituency chairman, Theophilus Tetteh, is getting ready to scuttle her chances.

Irene Naa Torshie Addo, another of Nana Addo’s favorite, who was defeated at the Tema West Constituency primary, is also reported to be scheming some back door tactics, to oust Carlos Ahenkora, who defeated her during the Constituency primary.

Nii Noi Nortey’s posters, which are making waves in the Klottey Korle Constituency, which houses the popular Osu Castle, have white background with red and green colours used in writing his name and his candidature. They appears, similar to the colours of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC).

At the top right hand corner of the posters, Nii Noi Nortey, instead of the NPP’s elephant symbol, used four hands, holding each other at the wrist portraying unity.

An earlier poster spotted by this paper, had a sharp portrait of the young politician with the inscription, “Face of Hope”.

According to sources within the party, all attempts to get Nii Noi Nortey, to rescind his decision, proved futile and as promised, he is all set to battle Lawyer Addison for the NPP votes, as well as floating ones.

The NPP, has a candidate in the person of the flagbearer’s lawyer in the election petition at the Supreme Court, Philip Addison, but Nii Noi, who largely feels cheated and overwhelming convinced that, the candidate is incapable of snatching the seat from the governing NDC, has indicated his readiness through his posters, to go independent.

Nii Noi Nortey, a former Constituency Chairman of the NPP, was beaten by Lawyer Addison, under controversial circumstances, when the leadership of the party teamed up with Mr. Addison, to have an Accra High Court to order a re-run of the Constituency primary.

In the second round of voting, Lawyer Addison, garnered some 396 votes, out of the 765 votes cast as against the very popular, Nii Noi Nortey’s 367.

It was held on February 27, 2016, at the national headquarters, Asylum Down in Accra. The party leadership, led by the acting general secretary and national organizer, John Buadu, skewed the process in favour of Mr. Addison, who defended Nana Akufo-Addo and the two other petitioners at the Supreme Court.

For instance, a party officer, who had died and was laid in state for burial that day, after the end of election, was recorded as having voted for Mr. Addison.http://ghanapoliticsonline.com

In the previous election, Addison managed a meager 22 votes, with Nii Noi Nortey, amassing a whopping 393 votes. The third contender, Nii Adjei Tawiah, who pulled out in the re-run to support Addison, managed only 19 votes then.

Lawyer Addison, had gone to court after the earlier election, sanctioned by the now suspended General Secretary, Kwabena Agyei Agyapong, last year, citing lack of preparation ahead of elections.

Nii Noi Nortey’s refusal to accept the results of the second election, led to his supporters prevailing upon him to contest the November election as an independent candidate, as they were convinced, he and not Lawyer Addison, could easily win the seat.http://ghanapoliticsonline.com

The resultant effect is what is being seen by the electorates in that Constituency, which has become a hot spot for the November 7 polls.

The NDC’s candidate, Dr. Zenator Agyeman Rawlings, daughter of ex-president Jerry John Rawlings, is also unsure of herself, as she is being challenged by the incumbent, Nii Armah Ashietey, in court.

Madam Eva Lokko of the Progressive Peoples Party (PPP), is also vying for the seat.

Though some have said, if Nii Noi Nortey, defies all counsel and contest the November 7 polls, the NPP, will stand no chance of winning that seat, he seems not perturbed and wants to prove his critics wrong that with or without the largest opposition party, he could pull a surprise.
