GONJALAND NDC YOUTH CAUCUS EXPRESSES DISAPPOINTMENT OVER THE MANIPULATION OF THE CHIEFTAINCY INSTITUTION IN GONJALAND BY THE NPP.

The Gonjaland Ndc Youth Caucus (GOYCA) wishes to express its utter disappointment at the calculated attempts  by the New Patriotic Party and its twice defeated flag bearer Nana Akuffo Addo to manipulate the Chieftaincy institution in Gonjaland.

It is worthy to note that, Chapter 22, ‎Article 276 clause 1 of the 1992 constitution addequately captures and states in part that,…”a chief shall not take part in active party politics; and any other chief wishing to do so and seeking election to Parliament shall abdicate his stool or skin”. This provision is self explanatory and employs the Chietaincy institution to have limits to its partisan political involvment. ‎

Despite this provision and its clarity in the 1992 constitution, Nana Addo and his NPP have singled out the Northern part of Ghana specifically Gonjaland which is the home of H.E President John Mahama to prosecute this ungodly agenda of manipulating this revered institution.

They tried it with the Bawku Naaba in the Upper East and his swiftly issued a disclaimer on a supposed lamentation about the collapse of the NHIS.

But on Thursday 01/08/16, almost midnight, Nana Addo and his team sneaked into the Kpembe traditional area and without any message they went to visit the Kpembewura. In the process of the engagement with messages flowing from both ends, the Kpembewura was reported to have declared an open support for the NPP with a prediction of some 53% victory for Nana Addo. ‎Most of their rented media portals carried this story just to paint a picture of Kpembe traditional area rejecting President Mahama a grandson of Ndewura Jakpa on whose skins the Kpembewura sits.

But what do you expect from an opposition party hungry for power and nothing to point at as a success story in Gonjaland within their 8 years of mismanaging the country’s economy? The manipulation of our palaces is their surest bet on this.

It is on record that the writer of the story at the local FM station in Salaga (Kanyiti FM) one Christopher Amoako Mensah confessed that the whole issue was staged and manipulated by Dr Clifford, the immediate past  Northern regional secretary of the NPP  and a cousin to the said Chief. Mr Amoako Mensah said in part “Nana’s coming to salaga was triggered by kpembewuras speech when H.E John Mahama paid a courtesy call on him. According to Dr. Clifford Nana in a phone call confided that he was demoralized by the chiefs speech and had to come to salaga”. Which he invariably did by sneaking into salaga at midnight. ‎

The twist and turns never got settled when another chief from Gonjaland, the Yapeiwura, was also reported in the same media outlets and other tabloids of haven mounted an attack on President Mahama with the remarks that, although President Mahama is a Gonja from the land, yet he and his subjects are thirsty, [paraphrased].

These two comments are unfortunate if there were indeed made by those Chiefs. The least we expected from these custodians of our land is to wish all candidates well and not to allow themselves to be used by the NPP and their rented press to scale up their grand scheme of manipulating our palaces and turning sons against fathers.
‎‎
It is recalled that sometime this year 2016, some selected Chiefs from the Akyem land poured libation and invoked curses on anybody from their land who would vote against their own son Nana Addo. What an irony on the part of our own that they will allow Nana Addo and the NPP to manipulate the skins of Ndewura Japka against  President Mahama, a grandson and modern day Ndewura Jakpa.‎

Gonjaland Chiefs ought to declare their support for their own son President John Mahama, for the simple reason that the following projects were/are undertaken across Gonaland by the NDC administration: ‎

1. The almighty Fufulso-Damongo-Sawla road with its ancillary facilities was undertaken by the NDC in 2012 through to 2015.

2. The Tamale-Salaga-Mankango road is under construction and this comes with other ancillary facilities.

3. The 60 bed Salaga Hospital is ongoing at the Kpembe traditional area.

4. The Busunu-Daboya-Mankarigu road is under construction with other ancillary works including the tarring of the Daboya township roads.

5. Over 150 communities have been connected to the national grid.

6. The North Gonja, Bole Districts Community Day Senior High Schools are nearing completion with that of East Gonja and Central Gonja ongoing and West Gonja in Busunu awarded. The contractor is mobilizing to site.

7. The Buipe Shea nut factory is located in Buipe and providing lots of jobs for the youth in and around Buipe.

It is worth mentioning that the Fulfulso-Damongo-Sawla road came with several ancillary facilities which included the Fulfulso-Ntereso-Yapei/Yipala water facility and with proposed extension to Yapei township in the course of the year. ‎

These are just few key major projects in Gonjaland. But we implore our Cheifs to emulate the likes of the Ashantehene who doesnt depend on government to develop his area or sit down for manners to fall from heaven but would go an inch to even sell his personal assets to provide such amenities. What happens to the royalties and the proceeds from the sale of our land and the lumbering activities going on in Gonjaland?

The point must be made forcefully  that the inception of President John Mahama’s regime shouldn’t mark  the end of the numerous problems and challenges confronting Gonjaland but the begining of mitigating  them since development is a process and it comes in bits hence the pace at which we are moving as a country in trying to provide these amenities.

In anycase, ‎the NDC has developed Gonjaland than the NPP. Gonjaland is receiving its fair share of the national cake so it is surprising to wake up to the news that Gonjaland is retrogressing under President John Mahama who is a grandson of Ndewura Jakpa as attributed to Yagbonwura. A rather unfortunate prononcement.

On the issue of the Damongo water problem which the Yagbonwura claims is a headache, it is recalled that somewhere 2013, President Mahama visited Damongo to inspect the ongoing works on the Fufulso-Damongo-Sawla road and during this visit, H.E President Mahama was categorical at the Jakpa palace about his resolve to fix the perennial water problem in Damongo and its environs, since then he has been working to fufill this promise same way he delivered the Fufulso-Damongo-Sawla road. Another unprecedented promise yet to be delivered by any President in this country. ‎

This attempt by the NPP to cause an image damage and some sort of feud between the chieftaincy institution and President Mahama in Gonjaland must cease.

We would want to also plead with our Chiefs to be mindful of their utterances in order to save them the shame of haven to lick back their spit by issuing rejoinders. Words may take their shape and meaning in the context used.

Why Gonjaland chiefs? Do we hate our own that much? Do we have to crucify our own because he has perhaps thrown one baby out of the ten he saved?

On this note we wish to congratulate  our teaming youth across Gonjaland for the display of political maturity by neither hooting nor pelting stones at  Nana Addo in return for what happened to President John Mahama elsewhere in Nana Addo’s backyard. And to encourage them to keep soldiering on in the Jakpa Spirit for John Mahama.‎
‎‎
Thank you.
