Akufo-Addo lifts ban on churches and mosques

The President, Nana Akufo-Addo has lifted the ban on placed on religious organisations as a result of the COVID-19.


The President announced this when he delivered the 10th Update on the measures being taken by the state to deal with the spread of the disease.
He said the lifting of the ban commences on 5th June, 2020.
The Minister for Religious Affairs, he said will provide the guideline for the lifting of the restrictions.


Up to 100 congregants can worship at a time.

He also added that congregants have to observe a mandatory one meter rule of social distancing during worship.


On March 16, 2020, President Akufo-Addo shut down all educational institutions – universities, second cycle schools and basic schools. All churches and public gatherings including funerals were banned due to the coronavirus disease.
