President Akufo-Addo has described his immediate predecessor former President Mahama as a bold and courageous leader. The President hosted members of Ghana’s legal team who represented Ghana in the Ghana- Cote d’Ivoire maritime case at ITLOS to thank them for giving Ghana that landmark victory. Addressing the team and other invited guests at the flagstaff house, President Akufo- Addo acknowledged Mr Mahama’s courage in launching the ITLOS case. He commended the former President for demonstrating bold but reasoned judgement, spirited but calculated risk taking and an assertive but reflective disposition. He praised him for his rational and emotional intelligence and also, for exuding confidence and humility throughout the period.
President Akufo-Addo, also commended Former President Rawlings for his vision and foresight in setting up the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC). President Rawlings did not only establish the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation, but invested massively in making sure that Ghana achieved its envisioned target of becoming a member of the league of oil producing nations. It was under his administration that the major critical legislation for the oil industry was established.
President Akufo-Addo also praised President Kufour for making sure that the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation operated within the confines of its core mandate and jurisdiction.
The former President Mr Mahama defied agitations and cynicism by his political opponents who were of the opinion that the move could be interpreted as a hostile act and that Ghana the case at ITLOS, and courageously launched the case.
