Akufo-Addo and Bawumia snub NPP MPs at……..

The Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo, on Tuesday put a total snub on a high powered delegation from Parliament that went to visit the family of the late Member of Parliament for Abetefi, Mr Peter Wiafe Pepera.

The Parliamentary delegation was made up of over 45 MPs from both sides of the House led by the First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Hon Ebo Barton Edro and the Second Deputy Speaker, Joe Ghartey.

They were in the house to morn with the family as tradition demands.

Nana Akufo-Addo in the company of his running mate Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and about four fearfully looking gentlemen believed to be members of the “Invincible Forces” group stormed the Cantonment residence of the late MP unannounced.

At the time, the delegation from Parliament was already seated and was being briefed by the family of the late MP. Also included in the high powered parliamentary delegation is Minority Leader, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, Deputy Minority Leader Dominic Nitiwul and Majority Chief Whip Alhaji Mohammed Muntaka Mubarrak, among others.

The sitting arrangement in the house was such that anyone who enters would first have to greet the Parliamentary delegation before climbing the corridor to greet the bereaved family. This was the process followed by many of the people who thronged the house on the said day.

However, Nana Addo and Dr Mahamudu Bawumia entered and without even lifting an arm to wave the MPs moved straight onto the corridor to greet the family and elders of the late MP. They sat on the corridor afterwards to observe proceedings in a very pensive mood.

The parliamentary delegation was forced by tradition to compulsorily go greet Nana Akufo-Addo because they needed to bid the family goodbye; Nana Akufo-Addo and Dr. Bawumia were strategically positioned on the corridor in the midst of the family members and so they had to greet them too by default.

Nana Addo’s latest behavior has once again set tongues wagging in the party, rekindling the debate as to whether he really has the capacity to unite and lead the party to victory on any day. Indeed, some of the NPP MPs were heard murmuring about the behavior of their leader but none was able to confront him head-on.

“This is the kind of things he does for people to brand him as arrogant.

“How can you ignore your own MPs in public like that, eii?

“Ei, so Ogyam won’t even greet us?”

These were some the statements murmured by some NPP MPs following the rude behavior of Akufo-Addo and his running mate.

This is the third time that Nana Akufo-Addo is leading the NPP into a major election as the flagbearer, however, he has been severally adjudged to be lacking the leadership qualities needed for uniting a political party as big as the NPP. It is believed that this is one of the main reasons for the consistency in the internal crisis that has bedeviled the party especially in recent times.

The late Member of Parliament for Abetifi, Mr. Peter Wiafe Pepera, died on Saturday, May 21, 2016 at the 37 Military Hospital in Accra after a short illness.
