Akufo-Addo Acquires Cooked Law Degree

As South African-Based NPP Academician Equalizes Mahama’s Scottish Honourary Degree

There is controversy brewing around the Honourary Doctor of Law Degree, conferred on the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) by the University of Fort Hare in South Africa, with reports suggesting that the academic laurel was cooked for Nana Akufo-Addo, to equalize the one recent Scottish degree conferred on President John Mahama by the University of Aberdeen – Scotland in March, this year.

The claim is given credence to the fact that, the Dean of the Faculty of Law at the Nelson R. Mandela School of Law in University of Fort Hare, Professor Obeng Mireku, is a known sympathizer of the NPP, based in South Africa.

Yesterday’s short event, which took place in the morning, formed part of the University’s centenary celebrations.http://ghanapoliticsonline.com

Nana Akufo-Addo, was accompanied by his wife, Rebecca; brother, Edward Akufo-Addo; daughter, Edwina Akufo-Addo; Executive Assistant, Saratu Atta; Political Assistant, Francis Asenso Boakye; and Press Secretary, Eugene Arhin and his 69-year-old bodyguard, Captain Edmond Kodda, who was in trouble recently over the three South African mercenaries’ brought into the country to rain NPP loyalists..

Whilst, some have claimed that Nana Addo, virtually bought the Honorary Doctor of Law Degree from the South African university, others maintained that Professor Obeng Mireku, who is not adequately known to Nana Akufo-Addo, used his unique position as the Dean of the Law at the Nelson R. Mandela School of Law to push for the conferment of the doctorate degree on his flagbearer.

Sources close to the school, have also said that, they were hearing of the NPP flagbearer for the first time and that they had no knowledge of him. They insisted that but for Professor Obeng Mireku, they had no idea why the NPP flagbearer, should be given the Honourary Law Degree.

Press Secretary to the Nana Addo, had claimed that “the decision to confer the honourary doctorate degree on Nana Akufo-Addo was taken by the University’s Governing Council on November 27, 2015 because “Mr. N A D Akufo-Addo’s legal and political leadership roles, both past and present, significantly contribute to human rights, constitutional democracy as well as socio-economic development as enshrined in the University of Fort Hare’s strategic vision and mission. It is in view of this that the University of Fort Hare is honoured to be associated with such a distinguished lawyer and politician.”

The University of Fort Hare, one of the first and oldest institutions of higher learning on the African continent, has made an immense contribution to the history of Africa, producing some of the outstanding leaders in Southern and Eastern Africa.

Illustrious alumni from this University include the late Nelson Mandela, first black President of South Africa; the late Julius Nyerere, first
President of Tanzania; the late Seretse Khama, first President of Botswana; Kenneth Kaunda, first President of Zambia; Robert Mugabe, President of Zimbabwe; Archbishop Desmond Tutu, the first black Archbishop of Cape Town; and giants of the liberation struggle such as the late Oliver Tambo; the late Govan Mbeki, father of former South African President, Thabo Mbeki; the late Robert Sobukwe; the late Chris Hani; the late Joshua Nkomo; and Chief Mangosuthu Buthelezi, amongst others.

Nana Akufo-Addo ,will return to Ghana on Monday, May 9, 2016. Reports are that the NPP is organizing party enthusiasts to meet him at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA) to boost his battered ego.
