AKUFO-ADDO: A FANATICALLY CONFUSED LEADER – HIS SENIOR MINSTER ACCUSES HIM OF SHIELDING WRONGDOERS

The recent media report and statements coming from the some close associates of the President and senior government officials to the effect that the President is shielding corrupt officials in his administration and private businessmen under investigation over alleged involvement in certain corrupt practices, has clearly shown that this President was and still is not only bereft of a clearcut direction on how to fight corruption on a democratic milieu, but also, and more importantly, he is understandably a totally confused anti- graft crusader.

In opposition, we heard Nana Akufo-Addo pontificating about how he had the desired knowledge for fighting corruption. He had at different times and on different platforms made Ghanaians believe that none of our past leaders can match his legacies when it comes to incorruptibility. And little surprise he had believed that summarily and arbitrary suspension and sacking of Npp chairmen, General Secretaries in the kangaroo military fashion and deploying thugs on party officials who challenged his corrupt practices , was an evidence of showing good mastery of techniques of fighting corruption. He had thus carried himself so high and for so long a time on this illusion that, somehow, one is impelled to begin to wonder if this was not the same Akufo-Addo under whose watch as foreign minister and later leader of the npp some billions of cedis were taken from Npp account for his personal use, state land meant for Ministry of Foreign Affairs projects were sold to his friends, Ghana’s drill ship sold like tomatoes at Mallam Atta market. It must be made clear that I am not against or discouraging or playing down attempts to weed out corrupt persons in the system. The President in opposition pledged to ensure that corruption under his watch would not be allowed to thrive and will either sack or prosecute any of his officials cited for corruption. However, fortunately or unfortunately, no sooner did Nana Addo win the 7th Dec Election than he reportedly began to recant and indulge in double speak. His Senior Minister has vehemently condemned a statement he made about Jospong group.👇🏻👇🏻👇🏻👇🏻👇🏻👇🏻👇🏻👇🏻👇🏻👇🏻

AKUFO-ADDO’S ENDORSEMENT OF JOSPONG- WRONG – OSAFO MARFO

The senior minister openly questioned the President’s approval of the activities of the Chairman of Jospong group of companies Joseph Siaw Agyapong. Personally I have no issue with the man and his business operations. I see and rate him as one of the assets we have in the country who deserve genuine state protection. But I have no does not mean he must be shielded by the state if found to have involved himself in corrupt practices. But we cannot and should not prosecute him based on mere allegations in the media. That is my personal position. The President and his party accused jospong of many corruption allegations and linked these allegations to the Mahama administration that is the irony in this whole praises and condemnation by the President and his senior minister respectively.

The President is behaving like a talking drum. It gives you all the sweet rhythms for your dancing shoes and goes to sleep after the occasion. That is what the President is doing to his numerous admirers and innocent Ghanaians who thronged to the polling stations to vote for him because of his lies, sweet but deceptive promises and powerful populist speeches. The President who promised was going go do what Jahovah could not do which is wiping corruption totally off the land, is shielding corrupt officials in his administration, appointing family members into his government and rewarding security officials who cover corruption in his administration. This was what the senior minister openly exposed in his condemnation statement. I don’t want to dwell on the many statements the President made which were rubbished by his officials including the famous IMF deal when he addressed the media at the Presidency.

Controversy over the propriety and legality of the office of the special prosecutor is already hot on the discussion table. Independence of that office is another contentious issue. The appointment of a special prosecutor by the President (executive) raises inherent separation of powers questions under the 1992 constitution of the republic. Per the modalities so far made available to the public, the special prosecutor is going to operate from the executive stable. Since the special prosecutor is a members of the executive branch, it means that the special prosecutor is or will ultimately be answerable to the President and can be fired by the President. This raises serious constitutional issues. Others have argued that the office is
