The Ashanti Regional Security Council (REGSEC) is leaving no stone unturned as it rolls out measures to eject Fulani herdsmen from Agogo in April 2016.
The RESEC has therefore scheduled a meeting involving the Inspector-General of Police John Kudalor, the Chief of Defence Staff Air Vice Marshal Michael Samson-Oje and the National Security Coordinator, Yaw Donkor at Agogo to kick start the ejection process.
Outgoing Ashanti Regional Minister, Peter Anarfi Mensah, who is the Chairman of the Ashanti Regional REGSEC however appealed through Onua FM’s morning show Yensempa that the inhabitants must be patient as the security takes steps to move out the nomadic herdsmen.
The issue at stake is a dicey one that must be tackled with decorum, he explained.
Mr. Anarfi Mensah assured, “from April 1, the first stage of operation which seeks to eject them from the lands will begin so we urged them to be calm”.
He observed that some inhabitants want the nomads out of some communities they are causing havoc but REGSEC disapproves of the selective ejection.
“They should leave the entire belt so the inhabitants should help us solve the issue,” he noted.
The Fulani herdsmen have over the years been in the news for bad reasons. They have been accused of engaging in robbery, rape and at times murdering residents among others.
Just this week a 27-year-old man was allegedly murdered by some Fulanis in the presence of his relative.
This prompted REGSEC to deploy a military cum police security taskforce to stop the rising tension between Fulani herdsmen and the youth of Agogo from escalating
