Afoko Vindicated! Akufo-Addo Creating multiple Bank accounts to build up cash for his own foundation at the expense of NPP’s main Bank account

Peter Mac Manu, Campaign Manager for the Akufo-Addo’s third term bid, yesterday, at the launch of a new fundraising scheme for the NPP “Adopt a Polling station” said, Akufo-Addo is greatly concerned about the activities at the various polling stations, and its men who will work there as polling agents during the elections. Essentially, recurring troubles that have engulfed the NPP is said to partly revolve around the management of the party’s cash. In recent times, some stalwarts of NPP in recent times have been named publicly for squandering and misappropriation of the main opposition party’s scarce funds.

At the event, Peter Mc Manu announced some newly created multiple account numbers with the account name as “I AM FOR NANA FOUNDATION” other than the party’s main and original account number at GHANA COMMERCIAL BANK, of which he urged donors to make their contributions into. Among the accounts mentioned by Peter Mc Manu are: Zenith Bank, account name-“I am for Nana Foundation”, account number-6010614929, Kojo Thompson Road Branch; MTN mobile money number- 0548407629 and final account is the usage of Visa or Mastercard to make payments through the website of Akufo-Addo’s own foundation “www.iamfornana.com/adopt.

Curiously, the motive for this cunning activity have raised several suspicions among many sympathizers of the party; as to why will Akufo-Addo and his personally own foundation, ignore the NPP’s main account sitting with Ghana commercial Bank which has its branches across all districts in Ghana, to open a new bank account for Akufo-Addo’s foundation at Zenith Bank operated not by elected or appointed party executives. One closest confidante of Nana Akufo-Addo who spoke to our news reporter on conditions to remain strictly anonymous questioned ” Are the various polling stations, for which reason these donations are to be made by sympathizers of the NPP, solely owned by Nana Akufo-Addo’s foundation? Are the polling stations no longer for the NPP party? Why is the bank account not labeled “I AM FOR NPP” but rather “I AM FOR NANA? Why is Akufo-Addo and his family interested in creating conflict between and projecting Akufo-Addo against the NPP? Why will monies raised from the party’s various polling stations end up in the personal Account of Akufo-Addo’s foundation? What more evidence do we need again for us to be convinced that Akufo-Addo is now turning the NPP into his family property? For how long are we going to sit down for Akufo-Addo and his family take us for granted? Could it be that, Akufo-Addo no longer trust his family and friends (Freddie Blay, John Boadu, and Co) currently occupying the NPP leadership, handpicked by and imposed on the NPP by Akufo-Addo himself? If the NPP’S main account is with Ghana Commercial Bank and it has branches in all the districts across Ghana, wouldn’t it rather, be more prudent avenue to appeal to donors in every nook and cranny across Ghana to make payment directly into the party’s main account at their comfort rather than the newly created account with Zenith Bank Ghana limited, a bank which has relatively few branches and its limited with relatively few selected regional capitals? Was the party’s National Chairman Afoko right when he stated that, he inherited a plethora of Bank accounts spread over several banks including one at the Prudential Bank operated by Akufo-Addo’s cousin Ken Ofori-Atta and friend -Keli Gadzekpo, who happened not to be elected officers or appointed officers of the party? Was Chairman Afoko right when he indicated that, those several accounts of the party he inherited were only operated by fiercest family members of Nana Akufo-Addo? ”
Understandably,  up till now, apart from Akufo-Addo and his family members, nobody knows where revenue accrued from the sale of the NPP “KITIWA BIARA NSWA” recharge cards go.

Mysteriously, under Akufo-Addo as the party’s longest serving opposition flagbearer since 2008, it is an unpardonable crime for an executive or member of the NPP to demand accountability and transparency on how the party’s finances are managed. The National Chairman of the opposition NPP Paul Afoko and his General secretary Kwabena Agyei Agyapong have been hounded, vilified, attacked and sacked from the party by Nana Akufo-Addo for attempting to instill discipline, transparency and accountability in the management of the party’s Cash and finances. In a sense, these startling revelations, stands to reason that, Chairman Afoko was right with his revelation. Akufo-Addo and his family’s prime objective in NPP politics, is their interest in milking the scarce financial resources of the party. After they have done that, they then use the same cash they have illegally acquired from the party to sponsor gullible fanatics of the party who will continue to vote for Akufo-Addo and his family and friends to hold on to party power. It is a tactics which Akufo-Addo and his family have employed since 2007 to continue to firm up their stranglehold of the control of the NPP.

Chairman Afoko explains it in African Watch Magazine’s April 2016 edition as ” The state in which I found the party was shocking. Financially, the party was in deep trouble. More debts than assets! The NPP had raised millions and millions of Ghana cedis in 2012 during the general elec- tion, but by the time I took office in April 2014, the party had only 89 Ghana cedis to its name. I repeat, 89 Ghana cedis! But it had huge debts! The only account controlled by the party at the time had only 89 Ghana cedis in it! Can you believe it?! Later we discovered several bank accounts all over the place that had the NPP tag to them but operated by people who were neither elected officials nor appointees of the party, just that they were very close to Akufo-Addo. They didn’t have the mandate or authority to operate a bank account in the name of the party. All those accounts were in the negative by millions of Ghana cedis. Those same people operated a forex account in the party’s name and there was about US$48,000 in it, but not controlled by the party. This was how bad it was in terms of NPP’s financial affairs. There was no accountability and transparency in the party’s finances”
